Comic Con in Valetta

Sat Oct 31, 2009, 1:10 PM
Hi kids,

Just a quick entry. I have been running a panel today at Malta Comic Con at St. James Cavalier in Valetta. As of tomorrow I will be at the table with the rest of Schlock Magazine people (www.schlockmagazine.net) and I will pomote the artworks of my sister Rita Dabrowicz. You can visit my sis gallery here: :iconrealmofzaterra: If you want some really nice and colourful manga pin ups, please drop by. I am at upper galleries in the room two.

See ya for now.

Hello there! Thank you so much for your comment. It is hard to keep up on this website with so many incredibly talented artists, and your assurance was greatly appreciated. I took a look at your profile and saw that were from Malta... a place I had never heard of before. So (thanks to good old wikipedia) I looked it up. It's amazing how many places there are in the world.. and how many you will never see or even know existed. Malta looks incredibly interesting... especially to a girl who has only ever lived in Florida. Have you lived there your whole life? And by the way, your work is also amazing and quite inspiring. : )

Actually I am Polish, not Maltese. And i used to live in a miner`s tiny village for 26 years so i know how it is being in one place for a long time. I am living in Malta for 2,5 years now (i emigrated). From my perspective Florida is exotic and id love to visit it one day. Im partly American, my grand- grand father went through Ellis Island and was living in NYC. I may have some relatives there, its a story worth of a Hallmark movie ;)
There are great artists on DA but that doesnt mean one isnt good and in your case you are very good. Its actually challenging, you can compare and test your ideas, you can learn something new just by looking how others did their works. its wonderful thing to know there are creative folks all over the place. And while at it, i think i have sorted out some persistant problem with lighting by looking at one of the portraits you took. it never occured to me you can actually use direct sunlight to work to your advantage.

i have a day off so im grabbing cameras and im off to shoot some crazy old walls or street lamps (they seem to be works of art by some strange reasons) around Valletta (capital of Malta).

take care and stay creative

Well you should definitely come visit the states sometime. Although I do want to travel and explore more of the world, I consider myself pretty lucky to be living in such a beautiful and diverse place. I have been to most of the states, including California, Texas, Maine, West Virginia... pretty much every corner of this country. Unfortunately, the only places I have seen outside of the USA are Mexico and Jamaica. Sometimes I wish I had the bravery to pack my bags and just travel the world from one side to the other. I've heard of people doing it... in fact, I know some people who do it. Maybe I would even stop in for a visit to Malta and show you some lighting techniques! haha. Actually, what you see in my photos is a combination of natural lighting and some photoshop manipulation. I do try to use natural light to the best advantage, but I usually enhance it further in editing. Nice talking with you again!
